On April 25, 2024, the HMG National Center shared a training session on a proven and effective advocacy framework: The Power Prism®. Hosted by Voices for Healthy Kids, this training taught HMG affiliates foundational methods of building effective coalitions to promote sustainable community change and showcased strategies that can advance HMG systems’ goals in advocacy settings.

What is the Power Prism®?
The Power Prism® is a step-by-step framework for recognizing and acting on opportunities to build momentum in an advocacy campaign. It’s all about learning how to make it easier for decision-makers to give you what you want. The framework is built on six “power tools” of advocacy that help individuals and organizations convert even the smallest event into a power building opportunity.
When campaigns commit to applying each of the power tools in the right ways, they can help advance equity and racial justice, breaking down the status quo and structural racism. Equity, racial justice, and power building, sharing and transfer must be guiding elements in all of our work.
