David W Willis, MD, FAAP has been announced as the new Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) Director of the Division of Home Visiting and Early Childhood Services (DHVECS).
Dr. Willis is leaving his post as the Medical Director and co-founder of the Artz Center for Developmental Health & Audiology, a regional, multidisciplinary non-profit organization that focuses on the demonstration of a unique clinical model for children and families – the Developmental Home in Oregon. He has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Oregon Health Sciences University, a previous Harris Mid-Career Fellow with ZERO TO THREE, and immediate Past President of the Oregon Pediatric Society. He was a member of Governor Kulongoski’s Early Childhood Matters Advisory Council, and of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Early Education and Child Care, is currently the chairperson of the AAP Early Brain & Child Development Strategic Initiative, and is a current invited member of Harvard’s Center for the Developing Child’s Frontiers for Innovation. His pediatric and early childhood leadership focuses on early brain and child development and building collaborations between the child health sector and the early childhood community that strengthen the developmental trajectories of the next generation of young children.
