Welcome to the NEW Help Me Grow National Center E-Note. The goal of this communication platform is to inform you of National Center happenings, engage you in opportunities that have come to our attention, and share the important work you are doing throughout the country to ensure all children reach their full potential. Our desire is that this E-Note serves as a mutually reinforcing activity and strategy, resourced by the National Center but utilized by all affiliates. There are multiple ways in which you can contribute to this E-Note and we look forward to hearing from you.

National Center News
We would be remiss not to lead off with a note of appreciation for the energy, collaboration and participation by so many at this year’s HMG National Forum, Strong Systems. Connected Communities. With close to 300 attendees, this Forum was the largest to date and featured the most affiliate-presented content in the last 8 years. The feedback received from you on the Forum was overwhelmingly positive and communicated that many of you felt your needs and desires were met. Thank you for making this annual convening a priority and for participating so actively in the community of practice, that is the Help Me Grow National Affiliate Network.
To help you SHINE in your work, Zero to Three is putting together exciting content for their 2017 Annual Conference. Join us in sunny San Diego, for an event that will inspire and energize you, where you’ll learn from top experts in the field and connect with your all-star colleagues from around the world. The National Center was recently notified that their proposal to present a Field Presentation was accepted. Stay tuned for more information on how Help Me Grow will be represented at this year’s Zero to Three Annual Conference.
HMG National Center Website Training Webinar Materials Available

New HMG Data Collection and Reporting Guidelines
As described in Parts 2 and 3 of the 4-part Making Change webinar series, the National Center, in partnership with the HMG Evaluation Advisory Group, revised the set of core Indicators that apply to the HMG system model. Detailed guidelines that describe the full set of metrics as well as the process for data collection and reporting will be released to the Network on Tuesday, June 13th.
Cohort Selected for the Diffusion of the Well Visit Planner within HMG
Six HMG affiliates have been selected to participate in the diffusion of the Well Visit Planner. The cohort will receive technical assistance from the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI) to incorporate the Well Visit Planner as a strategy to enhance HMG’s impact on families by promoting family engagement in child health. The cohort includes HMG Alabama (South Alabama), HMG California (San Francisco), HMG Florida (Palm Beach/Treasure Coast, Orange County, Brevard County), and HMG South Carolina.

Congratulations to Help Me Grow Orange County! Winner of the Help Me Grow 10K Innovation Challenge, which took place at the 8th Annual Help Me Grow National Forum, April 24-26 in St. Paul Minnesota.
HMG Orange County received a $10,000 award from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to support the continued growth and development of their innovation, which effectively utilizes collaboration, linked technology, and the Help Me Grow system infrastructure to improve developmental screening rates for children in family child care settings. The Kate. B. Reynolds Charitable Trust is exploring the potential effectiveness of Help Me Grow in Forsyth County, North Carolina, through its Great Expectations local initiative that helps every child enter school ready to learn. The Trust is currently funding research and analysis, working with Smart Start and MDC, the operating agency for Great Expectations. The recent EducationNC’s Focus on Forsyth series featured the efforts to implement the HMG system model in the county in the article Bringing Help Me Grow to North Carolina.
New Funding for HMG Orange County
Help Me Grow Orange County will benefit from the leveraging of federal funds known as an Intergovernmental Transfer, or IGT. IGTs are used to offset the cost of uncompensated care provided by county health departments, public hospitals and other local care providers. IGT transactions can only occur via a managed care organization. In Orange County, the county-organized health system that administers health insurance programs for low-income children, adults, seniors and people with disabilities is known as CalOptima. Only agencies that are contracted providers with CalOptima are eligible to receive IGT funds. CHOC Children’s is a contracted provider, and Help Me Grow is a program of CHOC Children’s, allowing for the IGT transaction to occur. While the Children and Families Commission is providing the matching dollars, it cannot earmark IGT funds for specific uses. However, it is anticipated that CHOC Children’s will use a portion of IGT funds to support the ongoing efforts of the local Help Me Grow, whose mission aligns with both that of the Commission and CHOC Children’s, for a period of up to nine years.

Dr. Paul Dworkin recently traveled to Los Angeles to meet with key stakeholders and constituents over a two day period to talk about First 5 LA and L.A. Care Health Plan’s work to develop the foundations of Help Me Grow LA, system model that works to promote cross-sector collaboration in order to build efficient and effective early childhood systems that mitigate the impact of adversity and support protective factors among families, so that all children can grow, develop, and thrive to their full potential. Dr. Dworkin was impressed with California’s ability to leverage regional or community specific partnerships and initiatives to build out dynamic and unique Help Me Grow systems. Congratulations to Help Me Grow LA, one the many Help Me Grow systems in California supported by the California First 5 Association.

RESOURCES OF NOTE
New App from the CDC to Track Children’s Milestones – Feedback Welcome
CDC’s Milestone Tracker app, developed by the Learn the Signs. Act Early. program, provides a fun and simple way for parents to track their child’s early developmental milestones. The app features interactive milestone checklists for children ages 2 months through 5 years, photos and videos to help parents recognize milestones, tips and activities for supporting early development, an easy way to share developmental progress with their healthcare provider and others, and appointment and developmental screening reminders. CDC welcomes your feedback as they make improvements and work toward an updated release along with Android this fall: ActEarly@cdc.gov.
Webinar: Strengths-Based Approaches to Screening Families for Health-Related Social Needs in the Healthcare Setting
This webinar will highlight a new issue brief from the Center from the Study of Social Policy focused on screening for health-related social needs. Panelists on the webinar will include Renee Boynton-Jarrett, MD, ScD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center and keynote speaker at the 2016 HMG National Forum, as well as JoHanna Flacks, JD, Legal Director of MLPB.
