States and the New Federal Home Visiting Initiative: An Assessment from the Starting Line presents a picture of the national landscape of state-administered home visiting and provides recommendations for policymakers.
The report is based on a survey of agency leaders in all 50 states and the District of Columbia conducted by the Pew Center on the States to investigate the extent to which states are meeting the objectives of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010).
The researchers documented the quality, funding, administration, and oversight of each state’s programs. The report provides an in-depth look at key findings from Pew’s survey and snapshots of home visiting in select states including California and South Carolina. Brief descriptions of federally approved evidence-based home visiting models are included.
